Elite cycling teams choose Calp again to prepare for the big events of the season
The British, Italian and Belgian women's teams join the likes of Quick Step, Cofidis, Astana, DSM and KMC Orbea.
Calp has once again become the venue for numerous elite cycling teams that have chosen the town of El Penyal to prepare for their big events of the season. Many of them are UCI World Team teams, the highest category of world cycling, which take part in the most important races of the annual calendar.
This is the case of the Belgian Deceuninck-Quick Step, the French Cofidis, TotalEnergies and Arkéa Samsic, the Kazakh Astana, the Russian Gazprom Rusvelo, the German DSM or the also French KMC Orbea, which has been in the city with its MTB champion Sebastian Fini.
The British and Italian national cycling teams and the Belgian women's team are also in Calp, as well as numerous continental teams, considered the second division of world cycling, and other amateurs.
There are several reasons why these teams choose the town of El Penyal. Among them are its favourable weather conditions, its rugged terrain with mountain passes such as Coll de Rates or Aitana, as well as the wide range of hotels in the town, specialised in catering for this type of sportsmen and women.
